We are not just a center, we are a resource
One of Harvest Learning Center’s core tenants is to be a resource for families. The center hosts quarterly parenting workshops to help with parenting issues. In 2011, in response to the number of families expecting second children, we hosted a workshop on how to help older children transition to having a sibling. Also, one of our degreed teachers has a degree in social work. She works with families to find community resources and contacts for issues that might be challenging a family.
There are many ways for parents to get involved at Harvest Learning Center. The most official way is through the Parent Action Committee. The PAC meets three or four times a year to provide the owners and staff parental perspective on all aspects of the center, including decisions about rates, facility updates and curriculum changes and additions. Other parents volunteer their time to provide fun outings for the entire HLC family. They have organized Harvest night at the Durham Bulls and pool parties at their neighborhood clubhouses. Lastly, parents come into the center to read to students and to help with garden day.
Ways to give to Harvest Learning Center
Harvest Learning Center has an annual Fall Festival each October/November. Local companies are encouraged to donate cash, gift certificates, etc. to help us fray the cost of playground equipment and classroom equipment. Donations can be sent to:
